contemporary hatha yoga

What is Yoga?

Yoga is a practise that is more than 5,000 years old, developed in the region of modern day India. It is an organised system of breathing and moving, and characterised by physical postures, which are held for a brief period of time.

What will these group classes be like?

  • We offer slow, meditative flows to build heat gradually and re-connect with our bodies
  • We practise yoga as a way to notice what we feel in our body, and to practice making choices about what to do with our body based on what we feel
  • We discourage competition and encourage each student’s personal exploration of the postures and breathing practices for their own benefit
  • Curiosity and interest in listening to the body is encouraged
  • A safe, supportive and non-judgemental environment
  • Permission to slow down and focus on what's important

What the class isn't

  • An exercise class (no fitness goals to achieve here!)
  • A space for you to be critical of yourself, your body or others
  • Any type of massage
  • A substitute for counselling or psychotherapy
